Filardo "Falling Up"

Filardo is the artist moniker for Tom Filardo (Total Noise, Bouquet, Key Losers, Asleep In the Sea), former Tempe, currently Los Angeles-based experimental pop singer songwriter. His latest full-length "Falling Up" is available now via (his brother Christian's label) Holy Page Records.

"Drawing inspiration from the Beach Boys and Wendy Carlos, Filardo pushes contemporary pop music to its limits leaving no sonic field untouched. From the pink panther esque movie score that is "Falling Up" to the noisy motorcycle that haunts "I Still Get Around" Filardo displays his true talent for songwriting. This piece is not to be overlooked!, get psyched!" -- Holy Page Org.

released 15 March 2013
"Falling Up" was written, performed, recorded, and produced by Tom Filardo at The Tempe Museum of Contemporary Art, and mastered by Ryan Butler at Arcane Digital in Chandler, AZ.

Sonny & the Sunsets, Dark Corners Teaser

Sonny & the Sunsets - Dark Corners Teaser

"The murder of a close friend of the band led Sonny Smith to think a lot about death and life after death. Shortly after, a visit to a psychic/medium brought Smith into contact with another friend who had died. This encounter with the afterworld inspired many of the lyrics on Antenna to the Afterworld. And what a strangely entertaining odyssey it turned out to be." --Polyvinyl Records

On June 11th via Polyvinyl, Sonny & The Sunsets will be releasing their new album "Antenna to the Afterworld," preview the opening track 'Dark Corners' from the album. Pre-order, HERE.

Dump "Superpowerless" reissue

painting by Sue Garner

Morr Music set to reissue 1993’s "SUPERPOWERLESS" (as 2LP/CD) album by Dump, a lo-fi home recording project by James McNew (Yo La Tengo)! Available on March 19th. Stream the album on PopMatters, HERE. Also, 1994's "I Can Hear Music" (as 3LP/2CD) and a collector's 5LP-Box ("Superpowerless" 2LP and "I Can Hear Music" 3LP) is available.

Dump -Superpowerless

"The year was 1994. Americans thrilled to the latest episodes of "Friends" and "Frasier," assholes smoked cigars in public with impunity, the New York Knicks lost to the Houston Rockets in the NBA finals, and Lo-Fi music was sweeping the nation!
Largely due to the astronomical success of Dump's debut album, Superpowerless, the music world shifted dramatically away from the grandeur of Grunge and the pomp and circumstance of Alternative Rock. Following Dump's lead, bands had turned away from the bloated, inaccessible recording studio system and embraced 4-track cassette recording as the industry standard. In his memorable article for Rockpool, Steven Hawking described this new musical phenomenon as "Lo-Fi."

The Observer (by Adrienne Rich・アドリエンヌ・リッチ)

Completely protected on all sides by volcanoes
a woman, darkhaired, in stained jeans
sleeps in central Africa.
In her dreams, her notebooks, still
private as maiden diaries,
the mountain gorillas move through their life term;
their gentleness survives
observation. Six bands of them
inhabit, with her, the wooded highland.
When I lay me down to sleep
unsheltered by any natural guardians
from the panicky life-cycle of my tribe
I wake in the old cellblock
observing the daily executions,
rehearsing the laws
I cannot subscribe to,
envying the pale gorilla-scented dawn
she wakes into, the stream where she washes her hair,
the camera-flash of her quiet
eye.
