"Magnetic Reconnection", directed by Edmontonian filmmaker Kyle Armstrong, is an experimental short form documentary contrasting the Northern Lights with decaying manmade debris surrounding the Arctic Canadian town of Churchill, Manitoba. The film touches on the regenerative power of nature and the futility of mankind’s struggle against natural processes of decay. The film features an original score by Jim O'Rourke, a voice-over by Will Oldham (aka Bonnie "Prince" Billy) and likely some of the best footage of the aurora borealis ever captured.

Ducktails - The Flower Lane

Stream the title track from the forthcoming Ducktails (a.k.a. Matt Mondanile of Real Estate) full-length "The Flower Lane," fourth album and his first for Domino Recording Co.. Due out on January 29th, 2013 in North America and January 28th, 2013 in rest of the world.

The album was recorded over the summer of 2012 with his fellow New Jersey band Big Troubles, and contributions from Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), Joel Ford (Ford + Lopatin), Madeline Follin (Cults), Jessa Farkas (Future Shuttle) and Sam Mehran (Outer Limitz). Mixed by Al Carlson (Peaking Lights, Oneohtrix Point Never).

The ten songs, along with a stunning cover of founding Clean/Chills member Peter Gutteridge's "Planet Phrom", on "The Flower Lane" move across a range of expressive pop songs that are bright and expansive, but venture even further with forays into saxophone leads, synth lines and piano accompaniment that would have been at home on the early records of sophisticated guitar pop icons such as Aztec Camera and Prefab Sprout. --Domino

Shirley Clarke's "The Connection" (1961)

"The Connection" (1961) is the first feature film by Shirley Clarke, based on the play by Jack Gelber.  Milestone Films has re-released "The Connection" in a restored print, and its home DVD will be coming in 2013.

Shirley Clarke's "The Connection" Trailer

Most of the actors from the original stage production reprised their roles for the film: Warren Finnerty as Leach, Carl Lee as Cowboy, Garry Goodrow as Ernie, Jerome Raphel as Solly, Barbra Winchester as Sister Salvation, and Henry Proach as Harry. All the musicians from the original stage production appeared: Freddie Redd (composer, piano), Jackie McLean (alto sax), Michael Mattos (bass), and Larry Ritchie (drums). Non-original cast members James Anderson and Wlliam Redfield took the roles of Sam and Jim Dunn. The character of Jaybird was cut from the film, that role essentially shifted to an off-screen camera operator, J.J. Burden, voiced by Roscoe Lee Brown.  --wiki
