Appalachian holler, psychedelic rock, tin pan alley, and medieval music continue to inform The Handsome Family's unique brand of Americana, while their affinity for old-tyme ballads and clawhammer banjo has never sounded so seamlessly connected to their use of samples, loops, and sonic effects. William Tyler - We Can't Go Home Again (Shaker Steps session)

Nashville lifer and raw countrified shamanic solo guitarist extrordinaire William Tyler has been a very in-demand musician who has played with the likes of Lamb Chop, Silver Jews, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and Wooden Wand. In 2010 he released his first solo instrumental record called Behold the Spirit to much critical acclaim. William has since signed to Merge Records who will be releasing his next album Impossible Truth due out March 19th.

William was in Lexington for a recording session with Wooden Wand, and he very graciously agreed to do a Shaker Steps session with us before he headed back to Nashville. We walked around and found a very cool locally owned little leather shop called The Last Genuine Leather Co. where they do custom work and provide an opportunity for local artisans to sell their wares. William plays this beautifully moving song "We Can't Go Home Again" off his upcoming album. --Shaker Steps

From the album "Impossible Truth," out March 19, 2013 in North America and April 29, 2013 in the UK and Europe on Merge Records. Pre-order, HERE.

Taste Of Savage: His Pupils Sing His Music

01 Calvin Love - Chin Chin by ArbutusRecords

"Sean Nicholas Savage is a magnetic character. As an integral part of the upcoming Montreal music scene, and an inspiration to many, several artists eagerly accepted the challenge to cover his songs; in celebration of his past work, but also for the promise of what’s still to come.
17 of Savage’s songs – ranging from anthems to obscure gems – are anthologized on this release. As the first act ever to release on Arbutus, a community has developed surrounding Savage, his songwriting, charisma and his social philosophies.

It is a true honour to present such a mix of genre and creative thought – and this is what’s captivating about the compilation. A group of artists brought together not by genre but by circumstance: a shared home, one which Savage represents as a primary character in the Canadian music scene." -- Arbutus Records
