Northern Spy has announced their new signee – San Francisco's folk-pop songsmiths Donovan Quinn already known for his work of the past decade with Verdure and The Skygreen Leopards and his recent project, Donovan Quinn & the 13th Month (last summer, their 2nd full-length “Your Wicked Man” was co-released by Soft Abuse and Shrimper Records). The first NSPY/Quinn LP/CD "Honky Tonk Medusa" will be released on Valentines Day. "Honky Tonk Medusa" employs San Francisco musicians, Jason Quever (Papercuts), Michael Tapscott (Odawas), along with his regular rhythm section of Nick Marcantonio and Michael Carreira. In addition to the music the album features artwork by San Francisco artist Joe Roberts and liner notes by Elisa Ambrogio (Magik Markers, 200 Years) & Ben Chasney (Six Organs of Admittance).
Your Wicked Man is the second album from his primary band, Donovan Quinn & the 13th Month, created in collaboration with Nick Marcantonio on bass and Jason Quever (Papercuts) as producer and multi-instrumentalist. In much the same way his presence molded Cass McCombs’ early efforts, Quever’s contributions to Your Wicked Man serve Quinn’s narratives with arrangements that range from ornamental to rollicking to bare, pushing Quinn's embrace of rustic, poetic popcraft to the fore. The band's distinct take on art-pop forms re-imagines early efforts from Mekons, Nikki Sudden and John Cale as filtered through Californian folk-rock. (Soft Abuse)

COUNTRY WEATHER: Country Weather was part of the bay area music scene from 1966 until 1973. Greg Douglass (lead guitar/vocals) is their best known member having played with Steve Miller, Greg Kihn and Terry & the Pirates. It was CW who backed Terry Dolan on his demo with John Cipollina and Nicky Hopkins. Dave Carter (bass/vocals) was briefly a member of Quicksilver and played with Skip Spence. Also with Steve Derr (Rhythm Guitar/vocals and with Bill Baron (drums) - like Greg, he left C W to form Mistress. (balladyre.com)
