Josephine Foster & The Victor Herrero Band

Following 2010's album "Anda Jaleo," live recording of Federico Garcia Lorca’s popular folk song collection “Las Canciones Populares Espanolas” (1931), Josephine Foster and the Victor Herrero Band is set to release their second collection entitled "Perlas" (Pearls), due out on May 7th via Fire Records. The songs were recorded live in the studio on to analogue tape by Paco Loco in Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain.

"It is a jewel of a collection, with songs and poems selected by Josephine herself, gathered from dusty old scores and brought vividly to the present with warm performances full of flesh-and-blood emotion. Foster breathes new life into timeless traditional melodies, drawing from the Spanish-folk traditions of Castile, the Basque, Santander and the Costa Brava."

日本ではWINDBELLが2010年の前作『Anda Jaleo』とのカップリングで5/7にリリースします。ブックレットにはジョセフィンとヴィクトールへのロングインタヴューが掲載されるとの由。詳細はコチラで。

Los Cuatro Muleros (四人のロバ追い) is taken from the upcoming album "Anda Jaleo" by Josephine Foster & The Victor Herrero Band which is due out on October 4th via Fire Records.

One of the most enigmatic, luminious and enlightening American singers of her time sings Federico Garcia Lorca’s popular folk song collection “Las Canciones Populares Espanolas” with guitarist Victor Herroro and live band.

Josephine Foster is not only is a captivating songwriter and performer (former Opera singer!) but she is daring and amazingly versatile and irregular in her subject and form. She has covered Emily Dickerson (Graphic As A Star) and sung German Art Songs (A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing) and released a album with The Cherry Blossoms among other projects. This is another concept she handles with grace and charm and wit but it is still retains that vitality, density and romance that a true poet bestows their work.
