ベドウィン（本名はアズニフ・コルケジアン）は、シリアのアルメニア人のファミリーに生まれ、サウジアラビア経由でアメリカにやって来た女性で、現在はエコー・パークのミュージシャンたちとも繋がっているLAのサウンドデザイナーだそう。ガス・セイファート（ベック、ザ・ブラック・キーズ）と組み、３年の歳月をかけてレコーディング（スモーキー・ホーメル（Tom Waits, Joe Strummer, Johnny Cash）も参加）、その音を携えて自らアプローチしたヴァージニア、リッチモンドのマシュウ・E・ホワイトのもとへ。メンフィス・ソウルや「ダスティ・イン・メンフィス」風のアプローチはマシュウ・E・ホワイト=Spacebombスタジオ・サウンドの十八番だけれど、とりわけトレイ・ポラード（Spacebombの作品の他、フォクシジェンの最新作『ハング』も）のストリングスのアレンジがスゴクスバラシイ。そしてカリフォルニアに戻ってミックスを仕上げたのがトム・モナハン（Pernice Brothers, Devendra Banhart, Vetiver）だったという、或る意味、理想的なルート。映像が脳裏に浮かぶようなカントリー・ソウルにレナード・コーエン、ジョニ・ミッチェル＝ローレルキャニオンSSWの風趣も髣髴とさせるようで、もとてもウェルメイドな作品デス。

Begun in 2010 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Trummors is a duo formed by songwriters Anne Cunningham and David Lerner. Dave, known to some for his years of work with Ted Leo & the Pharmacists.

Headlands was recorded and mixed by Jarvis Taveniere (Woods, Real Estate), and produced by Kevin Barker (Vetiver, Fruit Bats), whose b-bender telecaster work accompanies every track. Additional musicians include Dan Horne (Cass McCombs, Circles Around the Sun) on pedal steel, Kyle Forester (Crystal Stilts, Woods) on piano and saxophone, with Chad Laird & Steve McGuirl (Prince Rupert’s Drops) on bass and drums, respectively. James Elkington "Wintres Woma"

Elkington (an Englishman living in Chicago) is an inveterate collaborator who brings his lyrical compositional and improvisational sensibilities to any group. He has toured as a band member, recorded, and/or collaborated with Jeff Tweedy, Richard Thompson, Steve Gunn, Michael Chapman, Joan Shelley, Nathan Salsburg and Brokeback, to name just a few of his many enthusiastic admirers. His assured album, recorded at Wilco’s Loft, is baroquely detailed and beautifully constructed, featuring both his baritone vocals and some of Chicago’s finest, including Tomeka Reid.

Anna Makirere "Tiare Avatea"

The lone recordings of teenaged vocalist Anna Makirere of Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Sung in close harmony in Māori Kuki Airan, Tiare Avatea pairs Makirere’s casual yet masterful vocalizations with virtuoso accompanists. Somewhere between slack-key and flat-picked, the brilliant guitar work is seasoned tastefully with sunburned effects. Translating literally to “Afternoon Flower,” this radiant collection of originals and traditionals was issued regionally on cassette in 1981. It remains a unique look into Cook Islands sound and style.

Tredici Bacci

Taken from the first full-length album of Tredici bassi featuring Ruth Garbus (Feathers, Happy Birthday). The group is the brainchild of Simon Hanes, formerly known as the Guerilla Toss bassist. Available via NNA tapes.
